Street seen- champions of Luton

Luton Borough Council has implemented a scheme to help us maintain a higher standard for our roads, footpaths and parkland.

"Street Seen" aims to enrol "Champions" from every one of Luton's streets to act as extra eyes and ears and report environmental issues to a dedicated freephone service.

As a Street Champion, you will be able to make a clear & visible difference to Luton. Any time that an issue affects your street you have the means to report it free of charge. In return for your help, we promise to activate the appropriate action as quickly as we can and also feed back to you our response so you are kept aware of what we are doing and when we are doing it.

We do not expect you to patrol the streets, there are no meetings to attend and no commitment to any kind of target figure in terms of the number of issues you report. It is simply a matter of informing us that something needs doing and then letting us do the rest.

Of over 1,000 issues reported to date, common reports include the following:

abandoned Vehicles
unlicensed Vehicles
graffiti
fly Tipping
fly Posting
unsightly Litter (excessive litter in your street)
dog Fouling
stray Dogs
overflowing bins in street
broken Traffic Lights
street Light problems
overhanging trees / shrubbery
unsightly amounts of weeds in your street
dead animals
oil/glass on footpaths/roads
carriageway Defects (potholes, missing drain covers, road markings etc.)
footpath Defects (uneven surfaces, fence panels lying on footpath etc.)
damage to Street/Park Furniture (gates, benches, bus shelters/stops, signs etc.)

and this list is not exhaustive. If something is of concern, then let us know and we may be able to deal with it. If, for any reason, we can't then we will explain why as well as try to put you in touch with the right people to talk to.

The scheme operates simply. You inform us of the problem on the free phone number or via a dedicated email address and we do what we can to resolve it. We then get in touch to keep you informed as to what is happening.
