Before you apply, we advise parents to read the ‘The Next Step’ - to a High School or Academy in Luton - A guide for parents/carers booklet.
The closing date of 7 November 2008 has now passed for submitting a high school/academy application for September 2009.
Parents/carers can still apply for a school place by downloading the 'Late Application' form from the link below. The completed form should be returned to your child's current school if this is in Luton or to the Admissions Team.
Applications received after the closing date will not be considered in the initial allocation of places, except in very exceptional circumstances.
Some frequently asked questions about the process are detailed below:
I do not live in the catchment area of my first preference school but my second preference school is my catchment area. If I am not allocated a place at my first preference school am I guaranteed a place at my catchment area school?
NO. Where a school/academy is oversubscribed with preferences, those living in the catchment area and not identifying it as a preference will forfeit a place at the school/academy.
Am I guaranteed a place at the school/academy of my choice?
Parents/carers do not have a right to a place for their child at either their first, second, or third preference school/academy. If parents are unsuccessful in gaining a place at any of these schools/academies their child will be allocated a place at the nearest school/academy with vacancies to their address.
How can I weigh up the likelihood of gaining a place at my first, second or third preference school/academy?
When deciding on first, second and third preference schools/academies it is important to:
- Familiarise yourself with the schools/academies admissions criteria.
- Find out which schools have been oversubscribed in the past (this information is contained within the ‘The Next Step’ - to a High School or Academy in Luton booklet). If the schools you are interested in have been oversubscribed in the past you should look at the criteria used to allocate places.
What do I do if I want my child to attend Cardinal Newman Catholic School?
Parents can no longer apply directly to Cardinal Newman Catholic School for a statutory school place. Parents must submit a request form and a supplementary form either via the online system or via the downloads section below. Supplementary forms only need to be completed if parents are requesting a voluntary aided Catholic school.
