What is a family worker?
The role of the family worker is to act as encouragers and motivators to families building positive relationships and ensuring families don’t reach crisis point through the provision of early intervention.
Family workers work alongside parents and families to improve the life chances of children aged between 0 and 11. Providing support and guidance, they can help with adult learning and training, parenting courses, health issues, accessing the toy library and joining PEEP groups (PEEP groups support parents and carers as their children's first and most important educators).
No two family workers will hold the same role as the work they do is very much dependent on the school and its particular needs. As a rule they provide guidance, support and signposting, but whilst in one school a family worker may run PEEP groups and the toy library, in another school they may focus on training and promoting the adult and family learning courses.
It is hoped that by September 2007 there will be at least one family worker in every infant, junior and primary school - over 90 family workers in Luton.
