Total Place is a new initiative that looks at how a ‘whole area’ approach to public services can lead to better services at less cost. It seeks to identify and avoid overlap and duplication between organisations.
‘Total Place’, is an ambitious and challenging programme that, in bringing together elements of central government and local agencies within a place which aims to achieve three things:
- To create service transformations that can improve the experience of local residents and deliver better value
- To deliver early efficiencies to validate the work
- To develop a body of knowledge about how more effective cross agency working delivers the above
The ‘Total Place’ initiative, run in partnership between Luton and Central Bedfordshire Councils, has been examining ways to make all public services, not just councils, more efficient and better able to address key community issues.
Focusing on the theme ‘from dependence to self reliance’ the pilot has identified over 50 proposals to improve the welfare benefits system and cut crime.
