How to apply for a residents parking permit

Who qualifies for a residents permit?
Residents who keep and use a car, a van with an unladen weight not exceeding 35cwt (1,778kg) or motorcycle on a full-time basis will normally qualify for a permit.

Who qualifies for a visitors permit?
Visitors permits can be issued to each qualifying person within a household in a residents permit scheme in any one year.

Visitors permits are issued in addition to the residents parking permit.

Note for blue badge holders
If you have a blue badge you can park free in on-street bays or pay and display bays for as as long as you wish. In accordance with the blue badge scheme you may park for up to three hours on single or double yellow lines as long as there is no loading ban in force. Some off-street disabled bays have time restrictions

You cannot park in resident permit holders spaces unless you also have a valid permit for the area, where a loading ban applies or areas designated for a specific class of vehicle.

How to use your permit
Visitors permits may only be given to those calling at the permit holders address.  All permits must be displayed clearly in the windscreen of the vehicle.

What the permit allows you to do
The permit will let you park in any parking spaces which exempt resident permit holders from the time limit. These spaces will be signed with this or a similar plate:
