We have recently submitted an update of the business case for the scheme to the Department for Transport (available for download below). They will assess the business case and grant the project 'Conditional Approval' status. This means that the project can go on to the next stage of the funding process and appoint a contractor.
The scheme has secured all its statutory powers to construct the scheme under the Transport and Works Act Order. These powers were granted in November 2006. You can view a copy of the order below.
The rebranding of the project will now take place closer to the time of opening.
The busway is planned as a frequent, dependable high-quality service linking Houghton Regis, Dunstable and
The service will be provided by specially adapted buses capable of running both on their own track and on the public roads.
This will maximise the flexibility of Busway services so they can serve a large number of destinations in the area, connecting the main housing areas of the conurbation with the main industrial areas, the three town centres, the rail stations, and London Luton airport.
Separate strategies that have been adopted include walking, buses, cycling and parking. Further details for these strategies can be found via the related links area on this page.
