Please note
When you have submitted your request you will be issued with a reference number which you will need to copy and use when you make your payment.
We aim to process certificates within 48 hours, however we do offer a priority service.
Priority service fees
You must apply in person for this service or email your details to registration@luton.gov.uk, including a telephone contact number.
Collecting certificates in person
- ½ hour service - £28 If application received before 3.30 pm.
(If applications are received after 3.30pm we will only charge £20 but the certificates will not be ready until 10.00am the following day) - 1 hour service - £20 If application received by 3.00 pm. Otherwise will be ready by 10.00am the following day.
- 24 hour service - £13

Other ways to apply
Application for a certificate in person
You will be required to complete the appropriate application form (see bottom of page). You will need to provide your name, address and contact telephone number. You may complete a form at the Register Office, or complete the attachment and take with you. Payment is accepted by cash,credit/debit card, postal order. Please note, there is a 1.54% charge on credit cards.
By post
Please complete and print the attachment at the bottom of the page, enclose your cheque or postal order, made payable to Luton Borough Council, a stamped and self addressed envelope and send to the above address. Alternatively, you may submit the information required in a letter.
By telephone
We can accept your application and payment by telephone, with accurate information only. If you are unsure of some information, we may ask you to apply in person or by post. Please contact us on the above telephone number, with your card details to hand. We can either post your certificate to you or arrange for you to collect it. There will be a charge of 1.54% for credit cards.

Standard birth certificate, containing parents' names - £10.00
Short birth certificate (extract) - £10.00
Death certificate - £10.00
Birth and Death registrations within 3 months of the event
If the birth or death registration is less than 3 months old, it may be that the register is still current and held with the registrar. Certificates are £4.00 at the time of the registration and £7.00 thereater. Once the register is archived the fee becomes £10.00. Please check before sending any payment.
Application for a Marriage Certificate
If you were married in a church in Luton within the last few years, it may be that the register is still held at the church, and therefore you would need to apply to the church.
