How to make a Freedom of Information request

Subheading

Freedom of information

Subject to the exemptions in the Act, any person can make a request for information.

If you want to make a freedom of information request, please complete the form at the bottom of the page.

The Council must inform you whether it holds that information and, if so, must communicate that information to you.

The request for information has to satisfy certain conditions in that it must:

  • be in writing
  • state the name of the applicant
  • state an address for correspondence
  • describe the information requested

If the information you want is not already published by the Council your request for information will be dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act or the access rights available to you under other legislation, such as the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 or the Data Protection Act 1998.
Personal information held by the Council is protected under the Data Protection Act and cannot be released to anyone else unless the law permits this or the person you are requesting information about has given consent.

We have published a list of the information we hold and how to access it on our website and libraries.  If you require something not in this list, you can apply in writing, using the online request form below, write to us at the address at the bottom of this page or you can email your request to FOI@luton.gov.uk

If your request for information is clear and the information can be provided then you should receive a response within 20 working days of the request being received.

If the information requested is already published we will tell you where it is and how you can get a copy.

If your request is not clear then we may need to ask you for more information.

Complex requests may take longer than 20 working days to process. If we think this is likely to be the case we will tell you why and let you know how long we think it will take to deal with your request.

Depending on the amount of information you request, there may be a charge.

Further information is available from the The Information Commissioner website or the Ministry of Justice.
