The Welfare Reform Act is a new law introduced by Government which changes the way welfare support is calculated, decided and paid. The changes are significant and we are continuing to raise concerns about the likely adverse effect on many local people.
Everyone receiving welfare benefit needs to understand how they will be affected by these changes. In many cases, these changes will cut the amount of cash in pockets and the impact may result in severe financial difficulties for many households.
We are working closely with our partners to look at ways of supporting residents affected by welfare reform. Affected households will have received letters and, in some cases, visits from the Council to help them to understand the changes.
