Benefit changes - welfare reform

Subheading

Will you be out of pocket?

The Welfare Reform Act is a new law introduced by Government which changes the way welfare support is calculated, decided and paid. The changes are significant and we are continuing to raise concerns about the likely adverse effect on many local people.

Everyone receiving welfare benefit needs to understand how they will be affected by these changes. In many cases, these changes will cut the amount of cash in pockets and the impact may result in severe financial difficulties for many households.

We are working closely with our partners to look at ways of supporting residents affected by welfare reform. Affected households will have received letters and, in some cases, visits from the Council to help them to understand the changes. Follow this link for information on our helpline and specialist advisors in the Town Hall for drop-in customers.

The pages in this section will help you find out if you will be affected in date order of the changes happening, where you can get more information and support including benefits and debt advice, money management and help in finding a job, and any action you need to take.

These pages will be updated regularly as more details about welfare reform are announced by Government.
